Alfonso Marin began his musical studies at the Conservatory of Tenerife (Spain), and later on studied at the “Conservatorium van Amsterdam” where he obtained his “Classical Guitar and Vihuela” degree under Lex Eisenhardt.

From 1998 he devoted himself entirely to the study of early plucked instruments, continuing his studies at the same conservatory for five more years under the guidance of the lutenist Fred Jacobs.

After his graduation he carried on an intense concert activity as soloist, vocal and instrumental accompanist as well as basso-continuo, theorbo and archlute player. He has collaborated with many Dutch renaissance and baroque ensembles, orchestras and choirs like “Les Perruques de Amsterdam”, “Arion Ensemble”, “The Royal Wind Consort”, "Bachkoor Holland", "Concergebouw Kamerorkest", “Nieuwe Opera Academie (DNOA), "Amsterdam Symphonic Orchestra", "Concerto d'Amsterdam", "Barokensemble De Swaen" and "Venice Baroque Orchestra" among others.

Together with vihuelist Alfred Fernández he founded the ensemble EL CANTO DEL CABALLERO dedicated to performing Spanish Renaissance music. They have given concerts in The Netherlands, Spain, Portugal ,Belgium and Germany.

His collaboration with the soprano Valeria Mignaco is one of his most rewarding and fruitful musical activities, having performed with her in numerous recitals and festivals in Holland, Germany, England, France, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Israel and Spain. 

Alfonso plays on instruments made by himself.
